Medieval Bulgaria in a Day: Veliko Tarnovo & Arbanassi

The capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire and a frescoed Ottoman-era merchant village, from Bucharest

A full day inland into Bulgaria, deeper than our Ruse programme. First Arbanassi, a hillside village of fortified stone merchant houses, where the Nativity Church holds more than two thousand painted biblical scenes and the Konstantsalieva House preserves a 17th-century gentry interior. Then Veliko Tarnovo, capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire, for the Tsarevets hill above the Yantra and the craft workshops of Samovodska Charshiya. Bulgarian lunch included. Sedan car, English-speaking guide-driver, entrance fees and border tax included. Hotel pickup at 08:00, return by 20:00.
